Sakhi Trust works with women, who suffer from a variety of grievances. It helps those, who are forced into the Devadasi system and it encourages Dalit women, who belong to the most discriminated castes in India. Sakhi also supports mining affected and labour class women to stand up for their rights and to improve their living conditions and their healthcare. Furthermore, legality trainings and income generation programs for a sustainable way of living are held.

Legal awareness trainings

Indian women have a right to know about their children’s rights and also about their own rights as coequal members of our society. Unfortunately, this right sometimes seems to get lost in our community. Therefore, creating awareness about child labour, child marriage and the Devadasi system is a major part of Sakhi’s interventions. Also concrete informations about governmental and non-governmental issues play an important role. Furthermore, group meetings, MGNREGA programmes and women’s day celebrations arouse the whole society’s interest in this issue.

Livelihood support for sustainability & dignity

For young women, who have to stay at home, while their men and fathers are working, Sakhi provides income generation programmes. These programmes enable them to live their lives independently and to earn their livelihood by themselves. During the lessons we help them to improve their skills in stitching, designing and sewing etc.
